I got started with beekeeping back in 2011 when I got my very first nuc. My sister raised bees down in New Mexico and slowly got the idea into my head that I should try it out in Denver. The rest, as they say, is history…
Each year I grew more and more confident with my bees, understanding about their temperament and what made them tick. As I grew more interested, so did friends and family around me. I found myself constantly opening the hives and showing people the complexities of the beekeeping and the recognition of the entire hive as interdependent living organism.
Before I knew it, one hive turned into two… which the following year turned to three… then six… then 15….
What started off as a simple hobby, has slowly turned into a larger operation that I have grown more and more passionate about each day. As my active hive number gets larger and larger, however, I have recognized my commitment to keeping bees in the most ethical and and natural way possible. In turn, I aim every year to educate more and more people about local sustainable beekeeping and ways that everyone can get involved in building beekeeping in the state of Colorado.
